Have you ever really thought about your chimney cap? If you’re like most people, the answer to that question is no. But that chimney cap is actually an incredibly important part of your chimney.

Have you ever really thought about your chimney cap? If you’re like most people, the answer to that question is no. But that chimney cap is actually an incredibly important part of your chimney. It does a lot of little jobs that you wouldn’t think about otherwise, including keeping animals out of your chimney, reducing the amount of debris that gets in there during storms, and more.

So, there are a few things that you may need to get done in relation to chimney cap repair. Here are just a few of the most common problems that may come up.
Chimney cap is cracked.

This is probably the most common problem that people who do chimney cap repair have to deal with. Why? Because the elements can really beat up your chimney cap. If it’s been installed correctly and/or it’s made out of a durable material, then it’s more likely to crack than completely break. Many cracks are easily fixed, as long as they aren’t too large or they aren’t compromising the integrity of the entire chimney cap structure. Special carpenters’ glue is usually good enough to take care of minor cracks. Larger cracks may require a full replacement.

Chimney cap is not attached correctly.

Mistakes may have been made when the chimney cap was initial lyinstalled, or the elements could have done something to whatever kept the chimney cap attached to the chimney. Because of this, the chimney cap could be dangling off of your chimney or sitting on your roof because it fell off. Unless there are fasteners that have been completely broken off, the chimney cap repair usually involves putting it back on with mortar or whatever other device was used in order to keep the chimney cap on in the first place. The replacement will only take a short period of time at that point.

Chimney cap is completely missing.

Where did it go? You have no idea, and neither do we, we just know that the chimney cap is completely missing and it needs to be replaced as soon as possible to prevent damage and other issues with the inside of your chimney. A complete chimney cap replacement will, of course, need to be done at this point. We will help you to decide what sort of cap you want to get installed when it comes to that point in time. We have quite a few options to look at, and we have pros and cons for each of them as well.

Screen around chimney cap is torn or removed.

Many chimney caps have some sort of screen attached to them. This is where the smoke comes out of the chimney, but at the same time it prevents anything from getting inside of your device. That being said, the screen isn’t as durable as the rest of your chimney cap, and it’s actually quite common to end up with screen that is torn or broken. Depending on the structure of your chimney cap, we may be able to only replace the screen. Or, if it’s too beaten up, we may have to replace the entire unit so that it is secure.
Chimney cap is completely broken.

In some cases, you could end up missing an entire piece of your chimney cap. It could be cracked completely in half, or it could be so mangled that it’s just not going to be able to be used. If that’s the case, then you’ll need a replacement. We will definitely take a look at it and try to fix it to the best of our ability, but if we deem that it can’t be repaired, we will work with you to make sure that we find a replacement that fits in your budget and with what you need.
