Clarksville is located near thousands of acres of national forest land and is just a short distance from the Arkansas River. It is nestled along the Spadra Creek between the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and the Arkansas River. Clarksville is a gateway to scenic Highway 21 and the Ozark Highlands National Scenic Byway, which leads through the Ozark national Forest to Eureka Springs and famous Branson, Missouri and Silver Dollar City amusement park. Also, just a hop, skip and a jump a way are luxurious Hot Springs, Arkansas and Greers Ferry Lake known for its trout fishing.

Clarksville's location makes it a perfect paradise for the outdoorsman. Johnson County has some of the finest and most diverse scenic beauty and recreational facilities in the state. Recreational opportunities are endless. Hunters can enjoy a vast supply of wildlife including deer, wild turkey, ducks, squirrels, and the occasional bear or elk to name a few. Hikers and bikers may enjoy the Spadra Nature Trail located in downtown Clarksville. Haw Creek Falls, located 14 mile north from Hagarville features a small mountain stream with beautiful falls, rocks and bluffs. This is an outdoor photographers dream. Facilities are open year round.
Cabin Creek, stretches 50 miles from the Dardanelle Lock and Dam to the Ozark-Taylor Lock and Dam. Several hundred feet of shoreline make this a perfect location for fishing and camping.
Horsehead Lake, 98 acre mountain lake with 10 family units. Facilities include flush restrooms, bathouse with showers , picnicking units, children's playground, and a boat ramp. Also, available is the 3 mile long Horsehead hiking trail perfect for short day hikes.
Lake Ludwig, located just 8 miles north of Clarksville features a covered picnic pavilion, bat launching facilities, fishing, picnicking, and more. No camping.
Piney Bay, features 90 RV/tent sites with electricity, boat ramp, restrooms, picnic sites, amphitheater, swimming beach and playground.
Spadra, 2 miles south of Clarksville. Facilities include 35 RV/tent sites with electricity, boat dock and ramp, pedal boats, restaurant, and more.
Wolfpen Recreation Area, adjacent to the Mulberry River canoe ramp access. There are several primitive camping sites available and it is very popular with canoers.

Not the outdoors type? That's okay!!! We still have something for everybody. Johnson County is home to 4 rodeo arenas including Hurley's indoor area, a bowling alley, movie theatre, 9-hole golf course, and a city swimming pool.

For the sports lover Johnson County offers the Marvin L. Vinson Multi-Purpose Building which has something for the entire family. Activities include 2 full size basketball courts, volleyball, shuffleboard, an indoor walking track, and a computer lab. Also, depending on the season you can catch our local university teams in action including men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's soccer, and tennis. Catch a game and cheer on your favorite University of the Ozarks player.

Clarksville is home to the Johnson County Peach Festival. It all began in 1938 and is now the oldest outdoor festival in the state. Come join us the third week of July for family fun and entertainment. Festival activities include a street dance, frog jump contest, terrapin derby, greased pig chase, diaper derby, peach eating contest, cobbler, jam, and jelly bake-off, handmade arts and crafts, concession vendors, fiddlers contest, 4-mile run, ice cream social, bass tournament, horseshoe pitching, peach pit spitting contest, and the Miss Arkansas Valley, Miss Teen Arkansas Valley, Queen Elberta, and Princess Elberta pageants.

Did you know that Arkansas is the oldest and largest grape juice and wine producing state in the southern United State? Altus, Arkansas has been producing wine since the 1800s. When prohibition came around, the wineries were less profitable but grapes were still grown and many varieties were created right here in Arkansas including the Cynthiana variety that was specially developed by botanists at the University of Little Rock.
