St. Michael's is a lively and inclusive church in the world - a people of service, prayer and celebration committed to God's vision "to bring good news to the poor... to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
In the spirit of St. Michael we seek to vanquish the modern day dragons of poverty, disease and intolerance.
St. Michael's exists to share in God's work of reconciliation. As the apostle Paul writes, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to God, not counting their trespasses against them and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
We understand this to mean that all are forgiven and that all are reconciled and being reconciled. All human beings regardless of race, gender, creed, sexual orientation or any other dividing wall belong to God and belong to one another.
We practice this belonging by welcoming all in Sunday worship and in our daily ministry and worship throughout the week. Jesus invited his first followers to "Come and see." If you are looking for a spiritual home, we invite you to "come and see" how St. Michael's is doing God's work in Gods world.
We have three Sunday services, 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. The 8:00 liturgy is short, quiet, and to the point: Rite II from the Book of Common Prayer; no music. It's particularly enjoyed by early bird introverts. On the opposite end of the spectrum is the 9:00 liturgy: young families, children, extroverts, and introverts who like to be with extroverts generally participate in this service, which is lively and more participatory. In house musicians provide music (a blend of folk, gospel and traditional) using various instruments, including violin, guitar, drums, mandolin, autoharp, flute and bass. Alternative liturgical resources are often used for prayers and other aspects of the liturgy. A delicious brunch is served between 9:00 and 11:00 services. The 11:00 service is traditional Rite II, with organ or piano music and occasional instrumental accompanists (for more information, see Music Director Elizabeth Plowman). The Eucharistic Prayer is sung or spoken, depending on the liturgical season. Holy Communion is central to all three services.
A Service of Healing with Holy Communion is offered each Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:00 p.m. in the chapel.
The natural beauty of St. Michael's church building and surroundings illustrates our respect for nature and the wonder of God's creation. Recycling, composting, supporting local farmers, and purchasing fair trade products are important in the community, as we are constantly seeking new ways to better care for our environment.
