Translated into English, it means the "art of arresting". Taiho-Ryu is an American-based martial arts system developed by Fleming (Bo) Hardy, 9th degree black belt, in the early 1970's.
Elements from many martial arts systems, including jujitsu, Isshin-Ryu, Shotokan, and Taekwondo have influenced the development of Taiho-Ryu. Drawing heavily from Taiho-Jutsu, a jujitsu style used by the Japanese police forces, the system blends these elements into an effective style of self defense, with the emphasis on practicality, rather than sport.
Although apparent goals may be to improve and develop martial arts abilities, the intrinsic goal in Taiho-Ryu is actually one of personal development on an individual basis.
