Airbrush makeup has been around since the 1930’s. Makeup artists on the set of “Ben Hur” used airbrush makeup on the hundreds of extras that were on the set. Since then, cosmetic formulas have been evolving and designed exclusivly for use in the airbrush.
Airbrush makeup is now the preferred method for professional makeup artists. One of the main reasons for this trend is the evolution of high definition TV and photography. Traditional makeup can look even across the face to the naked eye, but when viewed through HD TV and digital photography, the foundation can look uneven, streaked or splotchy.
With airbrush makeup, the liquid color goes on in fine microdots that mimic color pixels used by technology. The tiny dots lay on the surface of the face so smoothly, the finish is most commonly described by everyone who sees it as “flawless” or “porcelin smooth”.
The other problem of traditional makeup is the way it completely covers the face, sometimes causing pores to clog. Traditional makeup also tends to fill the pores, excentuating them. Airbrush foundation does not do that. It lays on top of the skin and allows it to breath.
